Facility management, outsourcing and contracting overview

2009

The discipline of facility management has basically originated from the experience of the field and most of the business models are driven from the American market. The majority of surveys agree that organizational objectives vary according to different business environments. The link between a given company and its facility management department has been studied in details with a widespread agreement on the importance of tailoring to the specific context the facility management organizational model and the approach to the relationships with suppliers. In Europe two Technical Committees of the Comite Europeen de Normalisation (CEN) are currently adding to the body of knowledge terminologies…

Building a Medical Research Cloud in the EASI-CLOUDS Project

2014

The demand for IT resources is constantly growing in the scientific area. The ability to store and process increasing amounts of data has transformed many research disciplines, like the life-sciences, which now rely on complex data processing and data analytics. Cloud environments are able to integrate and encapsulate possibly distributed resources and allow convenient and on-demand access to the corresponding services, tools, and complete work environments. The European research project EASI-CLOUDS (http://www. easi-clouds.eu) develops a platform for a convenient service delivery with special regard to service integration, monitoring, management, and Service Level Agreement (SLA) negotiati…

Self-establishing a Service Level Agreement within Autonomic Cloud Networking Environment

2014

International audience; Today, cloud networking which is the ability to connect the user with his cloud services and to interconnect these services within an inter-cloud approach, is one of the recent research areas in the cloud computing research communities. The main drawback of cloud networking consists in the lack of Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee and management in conformance with a corresponding Service Level Agreement (SLA). Several research works have been proposed for the SLA establishing in cloud computing, but not in cloud networking. In this paper, we propose an architecture for self-establishing an end-to-end service level agreement between a Cloud Service User (CSU) and a …

<title>Statistical bandwidth allocation for multiservice networks</title>

2002

Multiservice networks will carry di erent kinds of applications in the near future. Bandwidth requirements change rapidly, and the network resource management will play an important role to guarantee the use of the limited resources in the most eAEcient way. We approach the channel capacity allocation problem by developing an SLA (Service Level Agreement) based channel allocation method. In our model, the channel may be wired or wireless, so this method can be adapted in multi-technique networks. The algorithm allocates resources to several di erent service classes via several di erent capacity routes. Service provider perfroms optimization by allocating data rate in such a way that the sat…

Broker and Federation Based Cloud Networking Architecture for IaaS and NaaS QoS Guarantee

2016

International audience; Today, the Cloud networking aspect is a critical factor for adopting the Cloud computing approach. The main drawback of Cloud networking consists in the lack of Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee and management in conformance with a corresponding Service Level Agreement (SLA). This paper presents a framework for resource allocation according to an end-to-end SLA established between a Cloud Service User (CSU) and several Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) in a Cloud networking environment. We focus on QoS parameters for Network as a Service (NaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) services. In addition, we propose algorithms for the best CSPs selection to allocate Vi…

A new inter-cloud service-level guarantee protocol applied to space missions

2017

Nowadays, the term cloud computing often falsely assumes the availability of an unlimited pool of resources. On the contrary, if a cloud provider reaches its limits, it may pose the risk of breaking their service level agreement (SLA). Space agencies could start using the cloud computing model within their IT infrastructure with multiple ground control points around the world to reduce the cost. An inter-cloud communication protocol with a guarantee of the service level will significantly reduce the cost if each ground control segment is considered as a cloud provider. This paper outlines a new protocol that was developed to take into consideration the end-to-end service-level guarantee. Th…

Recognizing Video Resolution by Monitoring Memory Metrics in Mobile Clients

2019

Content delivery is one of the most successful applications in mobile networks. Mobile edge servers are significantly contributing to the improvement of this type of applications, by also performing resolution adaptations as a function of the radio link quality observed by the users. In this paper, we face the problem of dynamically tracking the perceived video resolution by mobile clients in a mobile edge environment to guarantee an agreed Service Level Agreement (SLA). To this purpose, we propose a protocol-agnostic approach, based on monitoring some memory metrics of a running video streaming process at the mobile client, for identifying the time-varying resolution of the video content.

A Joint Time-Space Domain Analysis for Ultra-Reliable Communication in 5G Networks

2018

Reliable communication is a fundamental service level agreement criterion in wireless networks. Moreover, it is a performance indicator for ultra- reliable communication (URC) in emerging 5G networks. In URC, the quality of the delivered services to end-users ultimately depends on the availability of network resources as well as the quality of the received signal. Therefore, in order to analyze URC in cellular networks, both time- dependent spectrum availability and space-dependent service quality need to be considered. In this paper, we present a combined time and space domain analysis on network reliability based on a continuous time Markov chain model. To this end, we introduce a new rel…

Evaluation of SLA-based decision strategies for VM scheduling in cloud data centers

2016

Service level agreements (SLAs) gain more and more importance in the area of cloud computing. An SLA is a contract between a customer and a cloud service provider (CSP) in which the CSP guarantees functional and non-functional quality of service parameters for cloud services. Since CSPs have to pay for the hardware used as well as penalties for violating SLAs, they are eager to fulfill these agreements while at the same time optimizing the utilization of their resources. In this paper we examine SLA-aware VM scheduling strategies for cloud data centers. The service level objectives considered are resource usage and availability. The sample resources are CPU and RAM. They can be overprovision…
